A lesson based on the possessive adjectives in French. Firstly, I use a word document which displays the possessive adjectives in an easy to follow grid. I copy this and distribute to students for their folder/hard back copy or alternatively, it could be projected and taken down. The second document is a word doc worksheet on which the students can practice what they've learned by filling the missing possessive adjective into each sentence. This is a starter worksheet and so, I have noted on it whether the noun is masc/fem'/plural. The final document is another cloze test that could be used for homework, in class or for an exam. Students must insert the correct possessive adjective in the blank space and then must translate each sentence from French to English.

Two worksheets based on ‘La Météo’- The French Weather Forecast. Each worksheet has a map of France and a simple weather forecast. Students work in pairs to read the description written on their page to their partner. Their partner must listen carefully and draw weather symbols/temperatures etc on the weather map on their own page. Then swap roles. This activity allows the students to practice their oral skills as well as their listening skills. It also allows them to practice key weather phrases and compass points in French. Adjectives: The first hand out explains how to make adjectives agree in gender and in number and also gives examples. It is a two page word document and is appropriate for all levels. The second document is an exam (could also be used as a class activity or as homework) and has two sections; first section is a simple French to English translation and second section is a grid in which students must write out the adjectives in feminine and plural form. Also attached is a worksheet in which students must insert the correct form of the adjective in each sentence and then translate each sentence. Could also be used as an exam.

An 80 slide PPT based on 'Ma maison'. Aimed at HL Junior students or Ordinary level senior students. A different way to present key vocab. Each slide is colour coded (blue/pink/green) to convey the gender/number of the noun. Each slide also has a photo and a word. There are a couple of activity slides too e.g. write a paragraph about your house, work in pairs to orally describe the bedroom in the photo etc... Also attached is a comprehension with English questions which can be used at the end of the PPT presentation in class/for HW etc... A gapfill exercise on the subject of TikTok and it’s popularity. Once gapfill is completed, students can use the text as a comprehension and answer the comprehension questions in English. This is followed by a grammar exercise where students must find different types of words in the text. Once complete and corrected, the text can be used as notes for opinon pieces on technology/social media.

A 16 slide PPT on the Euros 2020 (2021) in French. Includes some simple geography based activities (match the flag to the country/name the European country) and some vocab activities (translating key football vocab and categorising vocab). Also includes a diary entry question. A good ‘back to school’ activity for a strong 3rd year class, TYs or 5th years.

A short and simple French ghost story with accompanying translation and ‘find the word’ activities. Useful for final class before Halloween break.

A vocab worksheet/presentation of vocab. Signs in the community/town. Can be used to present vocab, for HW or as an assessment.

A 2 page Word Doc which introduces young French students to French letter writing using easy steps. Makes reference to letter format and key opening and concluding sentences. Also includes a sample letter with simple, easy to understand vocab. 2nd attachment is a simple letter cloze test. Suitable for junior French students.

A word document which contains key phrases for the French Letter (Junior Cert standard). Phrases are under headings e.g. family, friends, the weekend, pastimes etc... so that they are easy to find. English and French are used for each phrase. This is a go-to handout for students when writing French letters and should cover the majority of content needed for Higher level and ordinary level. Could also be used to prep students for their oral exam as it covers most topics that come Up in the oral. Also attached is a short PPT to introduce the letter to higher level students. Second worksheet is simple one using images to illustrate classroom commands. Can be used to form part of an assessment, as a recap activity or as homework.

A well laid out and easy to follow notes handout on the 'Petit Mot' (French note) which frequently comes up in the Junior Cert OL and HL paper. Includes notes on how the note should be formatted and has different scenarios laid out under headings. PDF format.

A theme based ‘production écrite’ worksheet on refereeing. Includes a worksheet for students and the answer sheet for teachers. I started this activity using the key vocab listed - students had to work in pairs to translate and categorise the words (nouns/adjectives/verbs). They then had to use the vocab and prior knowledge to translate the sentences, all of which can be used for an opinion piece on this topic. Suitable for a Higher Level Leaving Cert/A level class.

A gap-fill exercise on the status of Irish/Irish as a compulsory subject. Will serve as a notes handout for an opinion question on this topic when completed and corrected. Aimed at Higher Level Leaving Cert students.
